Amit Shah says, "This important bill will be discussed in Union Cabinet"

On Wednesday morning, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with several politicians and activists from the northeastern states, including the Chief Minister of Mizoram, on the issue of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019. After the meeting, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the confusion on the bill has been removed. Now the Union Cabinet can discuss this in its next meeting.

According to the media report, Himanta Biswa Sarma also told that this bill can be introduced in Parliament in the last week of the winter session. Union Home Minister Shah was meeting with various stakeholders for the last few days on the issue of the bill which lasted more than 100 hours. Shah discussed various provisions of the Bill with the stakeholders and tried to remove confusion on various aspects of it. Sarma said that there are still some issues about which some solution has also been done.

BJP leadership has said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is as important as the removal of Article 370. This is the reason that during the introduction of this bill in the Parliament of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, all party MPs have been directed to remain present in the House. If sources are to be believed, the cabinet can give its approval on this bill on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh made a special mention of this bill and said that the absence of party MPs on many occasions in Parliament kills. Rajnath Singh dismissed the allegations alleging that the Citizenship Amendment Bill was against 'secularism'. Only non-Muslims will be benefited from this bill. He further clarified the bill, saying that there are three neighboring Islamic countries of India, where non-Muslims are victims of persecution on religious grounds, not majority Muslims.
