Chandigarh: Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu is set to make a comeback to the commentary box after almost ten years. Known for his dual role as a politician and a cricket commentator, Sidhu will be back behind the microphone during the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

Star Sports, the official television broadcaster of the IPL, has announced Sidhu's return to Hindi commentary for the IPL 2024 season. The former batsman will kick off his second innings as a commentator during the season opener between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings.

Sidhu, renowned for his flamboyance and aggression on the field, successfully translated his charisma and flair into the commentary box. His witty one-liners and poetic shayari, especially in Hindi, became immensely popular among cricket fans during the early 2000s when the IPL was still in its infancy.

Speaking to media ahead of his highly anticipated return, Sidhu expressed his excitement to be back in his 'home ground' of commentary. He likened commentary to his identity, stating that it runs in his blood, much like the turban given by his revered Guru. Sidhu emphasized his gratitude for being able to turn his hobby into his profession, describing commentary as a blessing and a boon.

Sidhu credited his father, Sardar Bhagwant Singh, for instilling in him the habit of reading newspapers and watching news daily, which eventually proved invaluable in his commentary career. He highlighted the importance of mental strength, spontaneity, and language proficiency in commentary, traits that were nurtured through his childhood routine of reading newspapers and watching news bulletins.

Despite his absence from the commentary box for nearly a decade and his multiple stints as a Lok Sabha MP, Sidhu has remained closely connected to the sport, staying abreast of the latest developments in cricket.

Sidhu's return to the commentary box adds a touch of nostalgia for fans who fondly remember his charismatic presence and unique style of commentary from the early days of the IPL.
