NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced on Tuesday that it had apprehended two individuals, including a woman, who were allegedly involved in the attack on security forces in 2019. The attack was carried out by operatives from the CPI (Maoist) near Tiriya village in Chhattisgarh.

This incident, known as the Tiriya encounter case, resulted in the deaths of six Maoists and one civilian. In 2021, the NIA took over the case, along with several other cases related to Maoist plots to execute acts of terror and violence in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

According to an official statement, the NIA arrested the duo on Sunday after conducting extensive investigations into the case, which is also referred to as the RK Dairy case. With these recent arrests, a total of four suspects have been apprehended in connection with the case.

NIA's investigations have revealed that the two individuals, who were arrested on June 18, 2023, had close ties to the top leadership of the CPI (Maoist) and were involved in their "anti-national" activities.

During the searches conducted at the suspects' residences, the agency had previously uncovered various pieces of evidence linking them to the activities of CPI (Maoist) members.

One of the arrested individuals has been identified as B.Ch. Padma, also known as Modem Padma or Lalita. She held the position of Divisional Committee Member of CPI (Maoist) in the past and currently serves as a coordinator between front organizations and the CPI (Maoist), while also propagating the ideology of the CPI (Maoist).
