Due to a continuous drop in COVID-19 cases, the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Assam announced on Monday that all coronavirus-related restrictions, including the night curfew, will be lifted across the state starting February 15.

Chief Minister Sarma also stated that elections for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, as well as other civic elections, will be held across the state in April. "From February 15th, there will be no curfew in Assam, and all COVID-19 limitations will be lifted. I urge all students taking the Class 10th and Class 12th exams to get the COVID-19 vaccination "CM Sarma addressed the media. This comes a day after Sarma stated that if the COVID-19 situation does not worsen, all coronavirus-related restrictions would be abolished across the state.

"If COVID cases do not increase, all COVID-related limitations will be lifted on February 15. The curfew will be lifted at night, and schools and institutions will reopen. According to the state health department, Assam reported 446 new COVID-19 cases and 16 fatalities on Sunday, bringing the total active caseload to 10, 581. So far, 7.21 lakh COVID-19 cases have been reported in the state.

Meanwhile, 1,791 recoveries were registered in the past 24 hours, bringing the state's total recoveries to 7.02 lakh. According to the health authorities, the death toll now stands at 6,549. According to the state health department, Assam has done 2.80 crore COVID-19 tests so far, with 21,152 tests completed in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate is 2.11 percent.
