Srinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning to Pakistan on Friday, asserting that the Indian army is fully prepared to counter any terrorist threats and deliver a decisive response. Speaking from Kargil, Modi addressed those he referred to as "masters of terror," emphasizing that their attempts at instigating violence would be met with robust resistance.

Modi's remarks came during a visit to the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, marking the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. He honored the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the 1999 Kargil War and used the occasion to convey a powerful message to Pakistan. “I am speaking from a place where the patrons of terrorism can hear me directly,” Modi stated. “Our soldiers will combat terrorism with full force, and the enemy will receive a fitting reply.”

Reflecting on the 1999 conflict, Modi recalled that India had sought peace, only to face betrayal from Pakistan. “Despite our efforts, Pakistan once again revealed its untrustworthy nature,” he said. “But lies and terror have been defeated by the truth. Every attempt by Pakistan to disrupt peace has been met with a resolute response. However, Pakistan has failed to learn from its past mistakes and continues to engage in terrorism and proxy wars.”

The Prime Minister highlighted that India remains committed to overcoming challenges and driving development in regions like Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. “In a few days, on August 5, we will mark five years since the abolition of Article 370. Jammu and Kashmir are looking forward to a new era filled with ambitious goals,” he noted.

Modi also praised the region's progress, mentioning infrastructure advancements and the revival of local traditions. “Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir are experiencing rapid growth in tourism and development. Kashmir has welcomed a cinema hall after decades, and for the first time in over 35 years, the Tazia procession was held in Srinagar. Our beautiful region is advancing towards peace and harmony,” he added.

During his visit, Modi laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial, honoring the soldiers whose names are engraved in stone, symbolizing their eternal legacy.

In addition to his speech, Modi will virtually initiate the first blast for the Shinkun La Tunnel Project. This ambitious project includes constructing a 4.1-kilometer twin-tube tunnel at an altitude of approximately 15,800 feet on the Nimu-Padum-Darcha road, aiming to provide all-weather connectivity to Leh. Upon completion, it will become the highest tunnel in the world.

The Kargil War, fought between May and July 1999, saw Indian forces successfully reclaim high-altitude positions occupied by Pakistani intruders. Kargil Vijay Diwas, celebrated annually, honors the valor and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces and serves as a reminder of their enduring legacy.
