The Elephant Whisperers made history by being the first Indian film to receive an Oscar. The movie centers on two tribal elephant keepers who develop a special affinity with their charges as well as with one another. The documentary covers a variety of subjects, including love, protecting the environment, saving animals, and the way of life of forest-dwelling tribes. The movie made history for India and won the Best Documentary (Short) award. Together with PM Modi, other political figures helped the crew behind the movie, including Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, who also offered cash to the movie's leads, Bomman and Bellie.
