Kolkata: Protests in Assam, Tripura, Nagaland and many other states of the Northeast continued on Sunday to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Furious demonstrations took place in many parts of West Bengal. In Howrah-Murshidabad, protesters burnt buses, stations, shops and toll plazas. The mob set fire to five empty trains at Krishnapur station in Murshidabad district. The railway tracks at Lalgola station were vandalized.

At Suti in Murshidabad district, protesters ransacked three government buses and forced passengers to unload from the bus and set fire to a bus. Police said that hundreds of protesters blocked the Kona Expressway connecting Mumbai and Delhi Road to Kolkata and burnt around 30 public and private buses. Many buses were also set on fire in Malda and Murshidabad. In Murshidabad district, the police had to lathi-charge the situation in some areas.

To prevent misuse of social media in Assam, internet services have been suspended till 16 December. In Guwahati from 7 am to 4 pm, in Dibrugarh, a concession has been given from 8 am to 2 pm. Long queues appeared outside the shops. Petrol pumps have also been opened, where rows of vehicles were seen.
