Punjab: CM Channi announces 'Mission Clean' to combat sand mining, drug

New Delhi, India: In a meeting with all of the state's Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) on Sunday, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi announced 'Mission Clean.' During the meeting, Singh instructed officials to implement a "zero-tolerance" policy against corruption and to pursue the sand, drug, and liquor mafia with vigour.

Chief Minister Charanjit Channi directed the state's civil and police administration to launch 'Mission Clean' by taking strict action against the drug, sand, and liquor mafia, as well as zero tolerance for corruption, the Chief Minister's office tweeted (CMO).

The Chief Minister also ordered the Mining Department to ensure that sand and gravel are available in the market at government rates, and DCs and SSPs to keep an eye on it. He also requested that the mining department ensure that no fees are imposed on sand used by panchayats for development projects. Singh also asked officials to ensure that shopkeepers are not harassed in the run-up to Diwali.

Chief Minister Charanjit Channi also asks DCs and SSPs to ensure that shopkeepers enjoy Diwali from now on, that they are facilitated, and that he will not tolerate their harassment at any level the CMO said. Taking serious note of the matter, CM Channi asks the mining, irrigation, and water departments, the CMO added.
