Srinagar: Devotees visiting Mata Vaishno Devi will now be able to get help easily in difficult times. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has introduced RIFD-equipped yatra cards for the devotees. RIFD-equipped travel card system has been introduced at 29 locations and various antennas and readers have been installed. Before the RIFD system, there used to be a travel slip system for pilgrimages which was available online and over the counter.

Under this new project, CCTV cameras have been installed at 40 new locations and 7 verification counters. A new control centre has also been set up. Anshul Garg, CEO, of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, said, "With the RIFD system, we will be able to track devotees and monitor the yatra in real-time. The Supreme Court has ordered that even on peak days, the limit of devotees should be kept up to 50,000. In such a situation, we can keep an eye on all those devotees through this new system. This will help us facilitate travel.''

He further said, 'This (Vaishno Devi Yatra) is an earthquake and landslide prone area. The new technology will assist our disaster management team. Along with this, there are often problems of people getting lost. With this technique, we can track the devotees. We can monitor which track the pilgrims are going through.' Along with this, helicopter services can also help in times of need and can manage the pilgrimage accordingly. People on Vaishno Devi pilgrimage have said that "they are very happy with the new system and it will help in smooth conduct of the yatra."
