New Delhi: Serum Institute of India has denied reports that its Covid-19 vaccine Covishield will hit the market within 73 days. Earlier on Sunday, there were reports in the media that Pune's Serum Institute of India (SII) would launch its Corona vaccine Covishield in the market within 73 days and its free vaccination would begin.
The Serum Institute has clarified that the news of launching the Covishield vaccine in the market is confusing. The vaccine will be brought to market only when all its trials are successfully completed and Covishield will receive regulatory approval. The government has just allowed us to produce and store the vaccine for future use only. Phase 3 trials are currently underway. We will officially confirm its availability soon.
Let us tell you that the Serum Institute has been signed up for the production of Covid-19 vaccine produced by Oxford University and AstraZeneca of Britain. SII has also agreed to make one billion doses of this vaccine. Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that if all goes well, the country's first corona vaccine will come by the end of this year.
