A woman was shot dead by a Punjab Policeman from a government carbine in the Durgapur area of Haibowal in Ludhiana on Saturday night and then he killed himself. Hearing the sound of gunshots, people gathered around. The injured police personnel were admitted to DMC Hospital. His condition is serious. The woman has been identified as Nidhi (31), a resident of Haibowal Durgapuri, while the injured, Simran Pal, was posted as a head constable in police lines. On a tip-off, senior police officials and police from Thana Haibowal rushed to the spot.

According to the information, Nidhi (31) was originally a resident of Gurugram. She was married in the Janata Nagar area. Nidhi has an 11-year-old son and a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Nidhi's husband had gone to South Africa about 3 years ago. After which Nidhi was living on rent in Durgapur. It is being said that at around 8 pm on Saturday night, she was in her house with the children. Meanwhile, head constable Simran Pal (35) reached her house with a government carbine and fired three to four bullets. Nidhi lost her life as soon as the bullets were fired. After which, Simran also shot himself with the same weapon. He fell down bleeding. Hearing the gunshots and the sound of the children, people gathered. They tried to lift both of them but Nidhi lost her life. People rushed the injured Simran to the hospital.

When Simran arrived with a weapon, Nidhi's 11-year-old  son and two-and-a-half-year-old daughter were playing with the mother. Then he fired bullets. When the children saw the mother in blood in front of their eyes, they screamed. Since the incident, both of them have been badly affected. Police officers are engaged in talking to the two children.
