Chennai: In the case of suicide by a Hindu girl student due to pressure of conversion in Tamil Nadu, the apex court has adjourned the hearing by issuing a notice. Hearing the matter on Monday, a bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Bela M Trivedi issued this notice on a plea by the Director General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu challenging the order of the Madras High Court. The Supreme Court asked the Tamil Nadu government not to make the matter an issue of prestige by opposing the High Court's order for a CBI probe.

During this, the Supreme Court issued an order to the Tamil Nadu Police to hand over all the evidence and documents to the CBI. The court has also made it clear that the CBI should also investigate the allegations of forced conversion. The Supreme Court has issued a notice and sought a reply. Along with this, the Center has also been given 2 weeks to file a counter affidavit. Let us inform that in Thanjavur, a class 12 student had consumed poison, who was admitted to the hospital on 9 January.

The student had died on 19 January. It was alleged that the victim was forced to clean rooms at the missionary boarding school St Michael's Girls Home. Along with this, there was pressure on him to adopt Christianity. Tired of this, the girl tried to kill herself by consuming poison. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where when he regained consciousness, he told the doctors about the harassment and pressure to convert. However, after 10 days of treatment, the girl died on 19 January.
