UP: AAP launches 'jhadu chalao' campaign in run-up to municipal polls

LUCKNOW: In preparation for the municipal elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has started a new campaign called 'Gandagi Hatao, Jhadu Chalao'.

Sanitation, corruption, and the BJP are the three main targets of the campaign, with the AAP positioning itself as the only party that can clean up the state through its election emblem, a broom.

The party is running a similar campaign in the nation's capital, where Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections are just around the corner. The AAP has made the city's garbage disposal issue and its three landfill sites a significant flashpoint in this campaign.

The AAP's election coordinator for Uttar Pradesh, Sabhajeet Singh, stated that the campaign would last until November 15.

The party will use padyatras, mohalla sabhas, bike rallies, and local meetings to raise awareness among the populace during this time.

"Local concerns are significant for elections for local bodies. Focusing on caste concerns like other parties in Uttar Pradesh is not how AAP operates. Our approach to working is built on enhancing fundamental services like health, education, water, and roads while also raising people's standards of living.

"Despite the drama the BJP has created around Swachh Bharat, UP and the entire nation remain filthy. We would persuade people to support AAP because it is the local body's responsibility to clean up, Singh stated.

Even though the BJP has been in power for a number of years, a party official noted that the party's performance in municipal affairs has been appalling.
