In a post on Instagram on Friday by former South African cricket captain Abraham de Villiers, he  cleared that he had never insisted on joining the World Cup team, but admitted that he had  said that he will join if the team needed.

In the immediate aftermath of the controversy, Indian captain Virat has also come out in support of former South African cricketer AB de Villiers and said that he is one of the most honest and committed men in his eyes.

"My brother you are the most honest and committed man I know. It's been unfortunate to see this happen to you. But know that we stand with you and believe in you.

"Seeing people enter your personal space has been sad to see and uncalled for. More love and power to you and your beautiful family. Me and Anushka are Always here for you guys" Kohli wrote on de Villiers Instagram.
