One of Iran's most famous actresses, Taraneh Alidoosti, has been detained by the Iranian authorities on Saturday. A statement issued by the state media said she had been detained for "spreading lies" about protests across the country.

Taraneh Alidoosti, the star of the Oscar-winning film "The Salesman", has been detained a week after her Instagram post in which she allegedly supported the first person to be sentenced to death for a crime in protests.  Summons have been issued on charges of publishing. According to a report on Iran's state media's official telegram channel, Alidosti was arrested because she could not produce "any documents to prove the claim" of her Instagram post.

In her Instagram post, 38-year-old actress Taraneh said, "Her name was Mohsin Shekhari. Every international organization that is witnessing this bloodshed and not taking any action is an insult to humanity."  Shekhari is also being sentenced to death on December 9. Shekhari was among the first to be executed for his connection to protests.

Since SeptemberAlidosti has supported protesters in at least three of her Instagram posts. Her Instagram account with 8 million followers has also been suspended. Alidosti had previously criticized the Iranian government and police. In 2018, Alidosti also approached the police for assaulting a woman who had removed her hijab. For this, in June 2020, she was also sentenced to five months of suspended imprisonment.
