DEVANAGARI: The Karnataka police have detained a 32-year-old married woman for allegedly honey-trapping an old man and attempting to extort Rs 15 lakh from him in the district, police said on Wednesday.

The police, the arrested woman has been identified as Yashoda, a resident of Saraswathinagar. The action has been taken following the complaint by 79-year-old Chidanandappa.

Chidanandappa had been friendly with the woman after she was first introduced to him. She had a hand loan of Rs. 86,000 but kept requesting more.

When Chidanandappa asked for his money back, Yashoda called him to her house and offered him juice laced with drugs.

After giving it to him, she stripped him and watched him as he fell asleep. Later, the accused demanded Rs 15 lakh, and if she did not, he threatened to disclose his wife and kids their personal video. The victim then reported a crime to the police. Further investigation is going on.

As technology advances, cybercriminals come up with different schemes to extort money. Now the cases of sexual violence, sexual assault and online honeytrap are increasing in the state. Scammers calling from anonymous number show obscene video and record it and demand money. Once you receive such calls, you are guaranteed to fall into an online honeytrap.
