New Delhi: Authorities have declared the entire campus in the cantonment zone after 60 people were found infected with coronavirus at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) -Guwahati. An official order in this regard has been informed in this regard on Wednesday. An IIT Guwahati official said that all these cases have come to light in the last six days and about 99 per cent of the cases are of those who have returned to the premises from outside Assam after holidays.

As per an order issued by the Kamrup (Rural) District Administration, unless the area is declared safe, the entire campus of the Institute has been converted into a sustainment area with immediate effect. It said both entry of people into the premises and exit from the premises have been banned.

In Guwahati IIT, Dean-PR Parameshwar Aiyar informed that one of the infected faculty members, five members of his family and other staff members, the rest are other students. Iyer has informed that all the patients except the faculty member and his family have been kept at the quarantine centre in the guest house premises of the institute.
