60 year old accused arrested for trying to rob bank

Chittoor: The Yeravaripalem police have arrested a man who was trying to break the lock of the village's Saptagiri Gramin bank, while intoxicated. The incident came to light when the bank manager Manmadha Rao found several dents on the lock of the bank while opening the bank on Monday after a three-day holiday. He immediately informed the police. On seeing the CCTV footage, the accused Desireddy Yelaiya ( 60) breaking the lock of the bank.
 
According to ASI Kodanda Ram, they found a man wearing a lungi and holding a crowbar in his hand trying to break the lock of the entrance to the bank in the CCTV footage. However, the man, who was reportedly in an inebriated state, could not break the lock and returned from the bank. On the basis of the footage, he along with Head Constable (HC) Suri searched Yeravaripalem village and surrounding areas and arrested the accused.

During custodial interrogation, he confessed that he had tried to break the lock of the bank. The accused was earlier involved in a house breaking case in 2020. He was arrested and produced in court. He was later sent on remand. Bakkarpet Rural CI Murali Krishna commended both the ASI and the HC for their sincere work in arresting the accused within 24 hours of the robbery attempt.
