Booster dose : Centre files affidavit in Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday heard a petition seeking a booster dose for people who had administered both doses of corona vaccine. Meanwhile, the Central Government filed a short affidavit in the High Court. An affidavit filed by Ram Kesh, deputy director of the defence department of the Union Health Ministry, said the government's priority is to give both doses of the vaccine to the entire population of the country. State that there is a demand to install booster doses on new variants.

The central government said two expert bodies NTAGI in case of booster doses and NEGVAC are considering its scientific evidence. The booster dose will then be considered as needed and justified as the schedule of the booster dose of the corona vaccine. The government also informed the court that there are currently no guidelines for giving booster doses to fully vaccinated people. It said the current priority is to give both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to the fully qualified population for the vaccine.

The Central government said information about the immunity period received by corona vaccine in India is currently limited. More information in this regard will be available only after a certain time. The government also informed a bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh that since the biological features of corona virus are not fully known, the suitability and requirement of booster dose of covid-19 vaccine has not yet been decided.
