According to the Mizoram Health Department, the northeastern state reported 158 new cases on Monday, the lowest since July 6. The caseload of the state is 1,17,419. However, the single-day tally on Monday is usually lower, as several testing centers, including the RT-PCR laboratory at Zoram Medical College (ZMC), remain closed on Sundays, he said. On July 5, the state reported 91 COVID-19 cases, the lowest in recent times. Daily COVID-19 cases are below 1,000 for at least 11 consecutive days.

The official said the death toll rose to 412 as five more people succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours. The one-day positivity rate also came down to 6 per cent from 9.47 per cent on Sunday, the lowest in several months, he said. He said at least 33 of the newly infected are children. The number of active cases now stands at 8,080, while 1,016 people have been cured on Sunday, taking the total number of cured cases to 1,08,927. The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients is 92.76 percent and the mortality rate is 0.35 percent.

According to the State Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP), over 12.69 lakh samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far, of which 2,613 samples were tested on Sunday. With regard to vaccination, the government has given 11.96 lakh doses to the beneficiaries till October 23, out of which over 6.93 lakh people have received the first dose and 5 lakh people have been fully vaccinated, State Immunization Officer Dr Laljavmi said. .
