In their statement, New South Wales Police said, 'Sex Crime Squad officers have arrested a Sri Lankan national, This arrest has been made in Sydney on charges of sexually assaulting a woman last week. This action has been taken based on the investigation in this case after a complaint was filed this week by a 29-year-old woman that she was raped at a home in Rose Bay.'

According to the New South Wales Police, 'The Sri Lankan citizen and the woman met through an online dating application a few days ago, followed by a forced relationship on the evening of 2 November. Due to the investigation, the police also took stock of the crime scene present in the Rose Bay residence.' Police further said, 'After a long investigation, the Sri Lankan national was arrested from Sussex Street Hotel in Sydney at 1 pm on 6 November (Sunday). The citizen has been imprisoned in the police station, He has been charged with rape.' The local court has refused to grant bail in this case. It has been confirmed by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board that their player Danushka Gunathilaka has been arrested by Sydney Police in connection with the rape.
