New Delhi: A court in the country's capital Delhi has also convicted another person who sheltered Shah Rukh Pathan after he was convicted when he allegedly ran away with a gun at a policeman during last year's riots in north-east Delhi. According to police, Shah Rukh Pathan had pointed a pistol at Delhi Police Head Constable Deepak Dahiya on February 24, 2020 with the intention of killing him. Pathan had fled after pictures of the incident went viral on the internet and he was arrested from a bus stand in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh on March 3, 2020. He is currently lodged in Tihar jail.

Police claimed that Pathan had taken shelter in the shamli house of convict Kaleem Ahmed after absconding which is confirmed by his mobile phone location. According to police, Pathan stayed at Kaleem Ahmed's house from February 26-27 to march 3 night. Ahmed had also helped the riot accused buy a new mobile phone. Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Amitabh Rawat had framed charges against him on December 7 under Section 216 of the IPC (sheltering a criminal who escaped from custody).

The judge said that in the presence of Kaleem Ahmed's lawyer, he was informed about the allegations in Hindi language and the accused voluntarily admitted the charge levelled against himself. The judge will hear the case of sentencing him on December 16. State that the maximum punishment under this section is imprisonment up to seven years and fine.
