Imphal: On Saturday, the Manipur Police, in collaboration with central security forces, successfully recovered and neutralized eight improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing approximately 33 kg in the Saichang Itham area of Imphal East district. This operation, which averted a potential disaster, was part of ongoing search efforts in response to the Manipur crisis.

The combined team of Manipur police and central forces has been actively recovering arms, ammunition, explosives, and other contraband across vulnerable areas in Manipur on a near-daily basis. This proactive approach has been crucial in protecting local farmers and cattle grazers in Moirangpurel and Itham villages from potential harm.

This operation follows an earlier clash on April 13, during which two Kuki militants were reportedly killed in a confrontation with security forces in Itham Moirangpurel. The clash erupted after the militants launched an attack from Kamu Saichang towards Tumokhong and Itham Moirangpurel. In the aftermath, security forces recovered two firearms, including an AK-47 and a folding INSAS rifle, from the deceased militants.

The Indian Army credited specific intelligence inputs for the successful operation and highlighted the expertise of the Bomb Disposal Team in neutralizing the IEDs. The army noted that this decisive action dealt a significant blow to the plans of hostile elements intending to carry out disruptive activities in the region.
