MUMBAI: Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis completed 1000 runs for RCB in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on May 9, 2023.

Du Plessis achieved this milestone in the game against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium by playing a magnificent inning of 65 off 41 balls (five fours and three sixes).

Du Plessis became the captain of RCB in 2022. He has played in 27 IPL games, scoring 1044 runs with an average of 41.76 and a strike rate of 142.62. With a top score of 96, he has scored nine half-centuries for the team.

The RCB captain is currently the 'Orange cap' holder in the ongoing IPL season with 576 runs in 11 games. He is striking out at a rate of 157.81 percent and averaging 57.60 runs per game. He has already scored six fifties.

In 2012, the South African hitter participated in his first game for Chennai Super Kings. In 92 games for CSK, he amassed 2721 runs at an average of 35.34. 20 half-centuries were scored by him for the Yellow Army. Faf played eight games for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, contributing 214 runs at an average of over 30 with two fifty-plus scores.

In 127 matches for the IPL, Du Plessis has scored 3,979 runs at an average of 36.50 and a strike rate of 133.93. He has recorded 31 half-centuries, with a 96 as his highest score.

Mumbai Indians elected to bat first, and in their 20 overs, RCB amassed 199/6. After Anuj Rawat (6) and Virat Kohli (1) were quickly dismissed by MI, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) recovered by putting up a 120-run third-wicket stand between captain Faf du Plessis (65 in 41 balls, with five fours and three sixes) and Glenn Maxwell (68 in 33 balls, with eight fours and four sixes).

Dinesh Karthik (30 in 18 balls, four boundaries, and a six) and Kedar Jadhav (12* in 10 balls), who both made late appearances, helped RCB to a respectable score.

MI chose Jason Behrendorff (3/36) as their go-to bowler. Each of Chris Jordan, Kumar Kartikeya, and Cameron Green claimed a wicket.

Ishan Kishan gave MI a strong start in the 200-run chase with his powerful hitting, but Wanindu Hasanranga's wickets of Kishan (42 in 21 balls, four fours, and four sixes) and skipper Rohit Sharma (7) reduced the hosts to 52/2 in five overs.

There was no turning back for MI, though, once Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wadhera had settled down. 140 runs were added by the pair for the third wicket. Suryakumar hit seven fours and six sixes in his 83 run innings off just 35 balls. Wadhera hit the winning runs for MI with a score of 52* in 34 balls, which included four boundaries and three sixes.
