One jailed for five years for distributing counterfeit Indian currency

NEW DELHI: A Special NIA Court in Kolkata sentenced one Ketabul SK to five years in prison and fined him Rs 40,000 on Monday for hatching a criminal conspiracy and circulating counterfeit Indian currency.

He was sentenced to prison for offenses punishable under sections 120-B, 489B, and 489C of the IPC.

On December 23, 2021, a Special NIA Court convicted two people in connection with this case. In July 2018, a case in this regard was initially filed with the Farakka Police Station.

The police had seized Rs 1,92,00 in counterfeit Indian currency. In August 2018, the NIA took over the investigation.

In 2018, the NIA filed a chargesheet against three accused people following a thorough investigation.
