Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his Canadian partner Denis Shapovalov, who returned to the court after 5 months due to Corona infection, suffered a loss in the first round of the men's doubles at the Western and Southern Open.

Rohan Bopanna and Canada Shapovalov have lost in the first round of this tournament by four-six, six-seven (1) to US Open sub-winner Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in 2019. This was Bopanna's first competitive match after the Davis Cup match against Croatia in March. She has continued to pair with Shapovalov after the Indian Wells Masters last year.

He said to the media, "It was a very close contest and to be honest, I am satisfied with the kind of performance we have done after 5 months straight in the tournament. We were playing against a very good team. We are now preparing for the US Open for the next few days". The US Open will begin in New York on August 31.
