Lucknow: A man passed away after ingesting poison outside the residence of the Superintendent of Police in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, reportedly due to the police's alleged failure to register a harassment case against his wife. The police have stated that they are investigating the matter.

According to the family members of the deceased, his wife had lodged a complaint of domestic violence against him a few days prior. However, they claimed that the police did not address his complaint of harassment by his wife. Sources within the police department revealed that Pradeep and his wife Isha had been married for two months, during which time she allegedly demanded Rs 5 lakh from him.

On Saturday morning, Pradeep attempted to file a complaint against his wife at the SP's office, but finding the officer absent, he proceeded to the SP's residence and consumed poison, as per his family members.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Atul Sharma stated, "Pradeep, a resident of Sungarhi police station area, consumed poison. He was rushed to a hospital by the staff, and the matter is under investigation."

Subsequently, Circle Officer (CO) Deepak Chaturvedi informed the media that Pradeep passed away while en route to a hospital in nearby Bareilly district. He mentioned that the post-mortem examination would be conducted there, and further action would be taken once the deceased's family files a formal complaint.
