Kochi: A tragic incident unfolded on March 11, 2024, in Kozhikode, Kerala, where a 26-year-old woman named Anu was brutally murdered. Her semi-nude body was discovered in a drain, sending shockwaves through the community. Police swiftly apprehended Mujeeb Rahman in connection with the crime. Rahman, aged 48, allegedly lured Anu into his car under the guise of offering her a ride, only to rob and murder her en route. Investigations revealed Rahman's extensive criminal history, including prior incidents of rape and robbery.
The incident took place in the Valur area of Kozhikode, near Perambara, as Anu was returning home from the hospital. Rahman, riding a stolen motorcycle and concealing his identity with a helmet, encountered Anu and offered her a lift. Mistaking Rahman for a neighbor, Anu accepted the offer and got on the bike. However, Rahman led her to a deserted drain where he ruthlessly attacked and killed her.
After committing the heinous act, Rahman stripped Anu of her belongings, leaving her partially unclothed body in the drain before fleeing the scene. Police initiated an investigation upon discovering Anu's body the following day. CCTV footage captured a suspicious red-colored bike at the location, leading authorities to focus their efforts on Rahman. Subsequently, Rahman was apprehended and, during interrogation, confessed to the crime.
Further scrutiny of Rahman's criminal record revealed a staggering history, with over 50 cases registered against him, including instances of rape and robbery. Rahman's criminal activities date back to when he was just 20 years old when he perpetrated his first murder by killing a jewelry shop owner. In 2020, Rahman committed a horrifying act of raping an elderly woman near Mukkam in Kerala, resulting in 13 cases registered against him in that locality alone. Victims of Rahman's previous offenses expressed dismay at his release from jail, lamenting that proper punishment could have prevented Anu's tragic demise.
