Tribals mob Ransack Khargone Police Station After Arrested Youth Dies

Hundreds of villagers stormed and ransacked a police station in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district on Tuesday morning, after a youth arrested on a theft charge, died.

The accused was arrested with 11 others for alleged involvement in theft and robbery. After being produced in court, the accused were taken in police remand for two days. Later they were produced in court again and sent to jail.  One of the accused died in jail during the night after his health deteriorated.

The videos of the incident show villagers pelting stones and police firing teargas shells. Some police personnel are also said to have suffered injuries.

The villagers alleged that the police beat up the accused brutally, due to which the condition of four deteriorated and one died. After villagers received information about the death of the youth, they attacked the police station. The situation was brought into control after police and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate reached the spot.

Ex-Chief Minister Kamal Nath said: “The government is bent on oppressing the tribals in Madhya Pradesh. I demand a high-level inquiry into the incident and strict action against the culprits. I also demand all possible help to the families of the victims, they must get justice.”
