Patna: Bihar Police has arrested 14 people in connection with the incident of attack on the police station in Bettiah. One constable lost his life in this incident, while three other policemen were injured. This incident of attack on the police station took place after the death of a youth allegedly in police custody on Saturday (March 19, 2022). It is said that the police arrested Anirudh Yadav alias Amrit Yadav for playing DJ loudly on Holi in Bettiah. He later died in custody. Police say Amrit died due to a bee bite, while Amrit's relatives claim that she died due to custodial beating.

According to media reports, Champaran Range DIG Pranav Kumar Praveen has informed that, 'So far 14 people have been arrested in the Balthar case. Search is on for other accused. Police is also taking recourse to CCTV and other footage to identify the accused. It is said that the mob had beaten to death Havildar Ramjatan Rai. According to the report, on the day of Holi, on March 18 (Friday), Anirudh Yadav alias Amrit Yadav was playing DJ. Anirudh was a resident of Arya Nagar in Balthar police station area. Police took him into custody for playing DJ in loud voice. He later died in the police station itself. According to Kanhaiya Yadav, brother of deceased Amrit Yadav, Amrit was beaten to death by the policemen in custody and due to this he died.

In this case, the district SP had told the cause of death of Amrit Yadav to be bitten by bees. According to SP Uprendra Nath Verma, 'Amrit was brought to the police station while confiscating the DJ. He was kept in lockup. Later he came out to drink water from the tap. Meanwhile, he was attacked by bees. He was later taken to the hospital, but he died. The bees had also entered the ear of the nectar.' The villagers got angry with the death of Amrit Yadav. They attacked the police station. The police tried hard to stop the crowd, but the mob entered the police station. The police station was set on fire and police vehicles were also vandalized. All this commotion went on for about 6 hours. The police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the crowd. The crowd could be controlled only after additional police force arrived. The video of this attack is becoming increasingly viral on social media.

Children were also among the attackers. About a dozen policemen were injured in this attack. Now in the viral video, a policeman is telling that, 'We fired in the air to stop the crowd. But still the crowd entered inside the gate. We were in uniform, during which we changed clothes and ran away. But one staff remained in uniform. The mob killed him.' The deceased constable was posted in the adjacent Purshottampur police station. The injured policemen are undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College. One of the policemen has also been shot. According to doctors, all the policemen are out of danger. The fire brigade, which came to extinguish the fire in the police station, was also set ablaze by the mob. The same Marxist Lenin Party's Sikta MLA Birender Prasad Gupta has demanded 20 lakh rupees and a government job to the family of the deceased Amrit Yadav.
